9K = 37.5% pure gold
14K = 58.5% pure gold
18K = 75% pure gold
PT950 = 95% pure platinum.

What gemstones are used?

We almost have any gemstone for you. We frequently work with diamonds, lab diamonds( CVD, PHPT), sapphires, morganite, amethyst, emerald, ruby, and fancy color diamonds, all kinds of natural gemsstone(mother of pearls, onyx, malachite, carnelian, agate, chalcedony, tiger eye, turquoise, pearl and so on), but there are many more options available to us.

What karat gold is best?

Karat is a term used to indicate gold purity. Pure gold is 24 karat. The legal standard is to stamp gold jewelry with markings such as 10KT, 14KT and 18KT. The Karat stamp indicates the purity of the metal. The number preceding the KT marking indicates how many parts out of 24 are pure gold. The alloys mixed with gold are added to control durability, color and the cost of fine jewelry.

If you desire strong yellow color from your jewelry, 18 karat gold will give you the richest yellow appearance. The disadvantage to 18kt is that it is not as durable or cost efficient as 14kt. Opinions vary about the most desirable karat from culture to culture. In America 14kt has become the most popular gold used in jewelry today due to its cost and durability. In western culture Jewelry made from 9kt has become synonymous with discount and lower end jewelry and is often brittle and difficult to repair.

Do you offer nickel-free jewelry?

The majority of our jewelry is nickel-free, but it is not guaranteed unless stated explicitly in the item description. However, many cases of allergic reactions are actually caused by the cleaning solutions used rather than the metal. Safely check a cleanser by dabbing a q-tip into it and testing a small area on your skin.

Regular Maintenance

Jewelry is constantly exposed to wear and tear. For instance, think of a ring on your hand. How many activities do you perform every day using your hands? Or, wearing a pendant swinging back and forth that could possibly come in contact with other objects or get pulled on? Metal expands and contracts depending on the elements, so how can you keep your jewelry in excellent shape? The most important advice we can give to you is consistently bring in your jewelry at least every six months for a free cleaning and inspection. Then, we can tighten any loose gems and give you a full report on your jewelry’s condition.

When Not to Wear Your Jewelry

A piece of fine jewelry should not be worn during exercise, gardening, washing dishes or lifting heavy objects. Additionally, showering with your jewelry on can dull the gemstones, because soaps or other creams may get caught under the gallery of the piece.

Diamonds and Gemstones

All gemstone and diamonds jewelry, especially those with prong settings, should be checked for security annually and worn with relative care. We use our hands constantly, and bumps to the stone or metal can cause shifts and looseness. Rough diamonds are not designed for jewelry in the way cut diamonds are. For that reason, they should be worn with extra care and checked frequently to be sure the prongs are tight and the diamond is secure.

If you accidently hit your jewelry with any degree of force, stop wearing it immediately and have it checked by Firstmadam Jewelry to make sure no gemstones are in danger of falling out.

Clean jewelry

It is best to have your jewelry professionally cleaned by Firstmadam Jewelry or another jeweler. For a simple cleaning at home, we recommend mixing Dawn dish soap in warm water, soaking your ring or other jewelry for five minutes, and using a soft bristled baby toothbrush to gently clean behind stones or settings. Air dry, then finish with a polishing cloth. We do not recommend chemical jewelry cleaners because they can damage certain stones.
